Aquaponics

A form of year-round, sustainable agriculture that combines hydroponics (water-based planting) and aquaculture (fish cultivation). Aquaponics has recently attracted a zealous following of kitchen gardeners, futurists, tinkerers and practical environmentalists. It's either a glimpse into the future of food growing or an odd hobby — possibly both.

The yields are otherworldly! Last summer, one aquaponic gardener in Connecticut reported that a single cherry tomato plant provided 347 pieces of fruit, and a trio of his cucumber plants threw off 175 cukes.
