Embroidered retail shop window covers in Florence Italy.

There's a luggage shop not far from where I live in Montréal's Petite Italie that has horrid orange gels on the front windows to protect the merchandise from solar degradation. They make the luggage look terrible - hell, they make everything look terrible. When I walk by I think of the lovely window coverings in Italy and how little sense it makes for a business to prioritize (poor) visibility over aesthetic. For pity's sake, it can't be that necessary to see the stuff. I'm considering getting my act together and approaching the business owner with photographs and a pitch for hand-sewn window coverings. As someone (Goethe?) said, the moment one definitely commits oneself then Providence moves too.

Freunde von freunden is one of my favorite websites.
