Emmeline Pankhurst

She shaped an idea of women for our time; she shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back.

In 1898 Emmeline founded the Women's Social and Political Union, a suffrage advocacy organisation dedicated to "deeds, not words".

Is it any wonder she and her husband were buds with William Morris, George Bernard Shaw, Thomas Mann and Keir Hardie. And the women pictured with her here? Who knows ...her supports as she's being led to prison (1921).
