Fashion historian and private collector Ivan Sayers (Museum of Vancouver) gave a lecture and fashion show last night at the arts centre. Some wonderful garments from the mid 1880's to the 1980's.
The red marle dress was hand-knit in the '40's.

Borscht - Barszcz (with Roasted Beets)

for Saturday night.

Anne roasted these globed wonders, brought them over and we assembled the soup here (added onions, garlic, herbs, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and stock).

What a difference the roasting makes to the flavour and texture! Really gorgeous. Thanks, Anne. When time permits this is my method from here on in.

This hand-carved guy was found at the Sally Ann in Whitehorse. He weighs 3 lbs.
